The Cambridge Analytica scandal has embiggened a mass examination of the role social media plays in our lives. Facebook has a responsibility to own up to the mistakes of their past, once they realised that it was a problem they did not inform their users that their data was shared with a third party.

This is a lesson for us in the technology industry, with GDPR on the horizon technology companies will have to step up their game. Hopefully, Facebook and Google will take a look at what Apple is doing by having privacy as a fundamental tenant of how they design their products.
